Job Summary:
A premier underground zinc mining operation is seeking an experienced Mill Manager to oversee its milling operations. Reporting to the VP of Operations, the Mill Manager will be responsible for managing mill staff, monitoring and optimizing mill production, maintaining quality control, and coordinating closely with other departments to ensure seamless operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise mill personnel, including the mill supervisor, millwright lead, and laboratory technicians.
  • Monitor and optimize production processes in the mill to maintain or increase output.
  • Oversee quality assurance and control for the assay lab and mill operations.
  • Collaborate with the Mine and Shaft Departments to maximize productivity and minimize interruptions.
  • Manage mill maintenance planning and troubleshooting production process issues.
  • Provide technical support to mill operators, millwrights, and lab technicians.
  • Oversee metallurgical accounting and control of material inventories (e.g., concentrate storage, ore tanks).
  • Maintain chemical inventory and order supplies as needed.
  • Communicate production schedules and concentrate inventories to the Shipping Department for efficient scheduling.
  • Coordinate with the Environmental Department regarding discharge water quality, flow, and treatment.
  • Plan and manage production operations and capital budgets.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, including safety, environmental, confidentiality, and code of conduct.
  • Mentor and develop personnel within the department.
  • Ensure all personnel, including contractors, adhere to safety standards and MSHA guidelines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support mill operations.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering is preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in a related role.
  • Proven experience managing mill supervisors, millwright leads, laboratory technicians, and other mill personnel.
  • Strong understanding of mill operations, maintenance, and production processes; knowledge of flotation operations is a plus.
  • Proficiency in PC applications, including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and presentation software.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and analytical skills with the ability to interact across all organizational levels.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong organizational, administrative, and technical writing skills.
  • Valid U.S. work authorization and drivers license required.

Must-Have Skills:

  • Bachelors degree in engineering (chemical or mechanical preferred).
  • 5+ years of relevant experience.
  • Proven experience in overseeing mill operations, maintenance, and production processes.
  • Competency in metallurgical accounting and material inventory management.
  • Strong PC skills (word processing, spreadsheets, databases).
  • Valid drivers license.
